Mystery Pack             $ 109.95         Buy It

The Mystery Pack   is a great little wet-canyon pack. Classic Utah canyons like Zion's Mystery require little more than a wetsuit, rope, harness, lunch, a few slings - and sometimes not even that. The Mystery is sized for these modest adventures. The basket-like shape allows drybags and Kegs to slide in and out easily. Emphasis is on drainage, so when moving in and out of water, water flows out of the pack almost instantly.

The Mystery carries well thanks to a 1/2" thick slab of foam against your back and the contour cut of the side panels. Foam in the front panel and in the bottom help hold it open, and provide floatation for pothole swims.

The outside pocket has drain holes at the bottom. It is suitable for waterbottles, or makes a great place to carry a few extra slings. The hefty handle is easy to clip, for rapping with the pack a-dangling. Also makes the pack easier to pass out of potholes, and things like that.

On the inside, a watertank pocket holds the tank against your back. A zippered pocket in the body is available for small things, and the lid has a nice big pocket, yet drains well too.

Features:

· Insta-Drain Construction
· Burly Canyon Mesh
· Waterbottle pocket with drainholes
· Thick foam backpad for comfort and floatation
· Double-curve shoulder straps / Padded hipbelt
· Basket-style shape accepts drybags and drytubs easily
· Watertank pocket inside
· Over-the-top rope-holding strap
· Strong, easy to clip handle

Using the Mystery Pack

Other than saying: "Chuck your stuff in it and start walking", what can I tell you?

· If you're carrying a wetsuit, put that in the bottom.
· When carrying a rope to the start of the canyon, it usually works best to coil the rope and drape it across the top, holding it in place with the over-the-top strap and the side compression straps, as appropriate.
· While the thick foam pad protects you from lumpy objects in the pack, careful packing goes a long way too. Pack carefully.
· Helmets often fit well at the top, available for pushing down the contents. Do NOT dangle the helmet off the back of the pack - this is just so unsightly!

Mystery Pack with one KegNOT Using the Mystery Pack

While we want you to carry it at all times, wear it out and buy a new one, we recommend NOT using the Mystery Pack in dry, narrow canyons that chew up gear. You (hopefully) spent a lot of money on this pack and should use it when the flow-through drainage is of great advantage. In narrow canyons, use the oldest, smallest and most-beat-up pack you can lay your hands on.

Using the Mystery Pack with Dry Kegs

We designed the Mystery Pack with Kegs in mind. They fit in sideways. Here's the pack with ONE large Keg:
