Pack tosses work pretty well, but...

The drought has brought some changes to the land of canyons, including lowering the level of Dominy Reservoir to heights not seen since the sixties. One of the canyons revealed has one of the longest "pack tosses" I have ever seen. Long enough that tossing a pack is probably not going to work.

Time for an engineered solution. It may be faintly ridiculous, but...

Pot Shots are designed for tossing. They are a far superior thing to toss than a pack, especially MY pack.

Pot Shots are sized for easy under-hand throwing. The bag itself can be filled with sand, gravel or water bottles to achieve the desired weight. A drawcord top keeps the stuff from falling out. The heavy strap handles are nice and sturdy, and allow pulling on them with some confidence. The bags themselves are made from 11 oz 1000d Cordura, with taped seams and triple stitching.

As an extra feature, a retrieval strap across the bottom allows the bag to be utilized as a sandbag. Filled with wet sand, two or three bags can, in some, limited situations, be ganged together to form an anchor. A retrieval cord can be clipped or tied to the bottom ends, and the bags retrieved one by one. If the top is left open, the sand can fall out before the bag hits you on the head. (NOTE: this is an advanced technique - use with caution).

They're kinda like little Cordura purses. I plan on carrying one or two Pot Shots, with my extra slings and "trouble" kit in them. I've used them a couple times and they toss real sweet. A lot easier to get a long and/or precise toss with the Pot Shot, than with someone's pack. Not so hard on the packs, either.
